Vintage for shorter figures and work with proportions
Lengths and cuts that work for shorter figures, and where to find the right thing in vintage.
Shorter in stature and vintage, a little more pickiness is needed here, but certainly not a limitation. The right vintage proportions can work better than anything from today's ready-to-wear. It mainly helps with lengths and waist work.
What works great High-waisted, vintage jeans, trousers and high-waisted skirts visually elongate the legs. This is one of the greatest gifts of vintage fashion for shorter figures. Short leather jacket (biker, bomber), short cut does not shorten the silhouette and adds volume in the right place. Midi skirt with a high waist, seemingly paradoxical, but correctly belted midi skirt lengthens the silhouette. A cropped blazer, a shorter length above the waist works better than a long line.
What to adjust at the tailor The length of trousers and jeans, this will be a regular need for vintage. A tailor can do it for 150-200 CZK and the result is different from upside-down trousers. The length of the coat, too long a coat will shorten the figure; a tailor will shorten the length for 300–500 CZK.
What to avoid Very long coats without a belt (they swallow the figure). Oversized without intention (the result is a “piece
it carries the person, not the other way round"). Layers without structure.
Key tip A belt is the most important accessory for a shorter figure, it defines the waist and gives the outfit a vertical line. A vintage leather belt with an oversized vintage jacket or shirt immediately changes the proportions of the whole outfit.
