Vintage clothes for work according to the dress code

A vintage piece in a work outfit doesn't have to look amateurish. How to combine vintage with a dress code from casual to formal.

One of the most frequent questions: "Can you wear vintage to work?" The answer depends on where you work, but in general, vintage in a work context is easier than you think.

Casual office (startup, creative field, home office) In this environment, vintage is most at home. Vintage flannel shirt over T-shirt + chinos or jeans. A leather jacket for simpler trousers. Vintage jeans with work shirt. The key: look purposeful, not tired. The piece must be clean, unwrinkled, and the right size.

Business casual A step up, vintage works here as a "special element within the rules". Vintage blazer in a neutral color + modern trousers made of suit fabric + white shirt or rollneck. A leather blazer instead of a classic jacket, elegant and original. Vintage silk blouse with more formal trousers.

A more formal setting The space is smaller, but still there. A vintage woolen coat as an outer layer over a formal outfit. Vintage accessory (belt, scarf, brooch) to an otherwise classic outfit. Vintage watches are perfectly fine in any formal setting.

What to avoid A piece in poor condition (flakes, holes, frayed edges), always bad at work. Too expressive graphics on a t-shirt. A complete vintage outfit without a modern element, it can act as a costume. And non-custom sizing, fit is more important in a work context than anywhere else.
