Vintage accessories as the easiest start

A scarf, belt, handbag or brooch, vintage accessories are the safest gateway to the vintage world. How to get started and what to look for.

If you are hesitating whether vintage clothes will "fit" you, start with the accessories. You don't have to worry about size, the risk of a costume effect is minimal and the impact on the outfit is immediate. A vintage accessory is the cheapest way to add character to an outfit.

Scarf The most versatile vintage accessory. On the neck, on the hair, on the purse or on the wrist, four ways to wear one piece. Vintage silk scarves from the 60s-80s. years ago, they have patterns and colors not produced today, and are made of a material that is softer and more durable than today's polyester versions.

Belt Vintage belts are leather, genuine leather, metal buckles, no synthetic varnish that peels off after a year. A leather belt works with jeans, skirts, oversized coats and trousers. And unlike a new fast fashion belt, vintage leather gets better with wear.

Handbag Vintage handbags are made of materials that you won't find in new handbags at a similar price. The structure, the fittings, the threads, everything is stronger. Plus the shape: vintage handbags have proportions that are coming back in waves in modern fashion (baguette, bucket, structured flap).

Brooch and jewelry

Vintage brooches, clasps and jewelry are a huge category with minimal risk. One bold piece on a coat or collar speaks for the whole outfit. And the prices are an order of magnitude lower than for new "designer" jewelry.
